Worth Watching: Shameless

Shameless kicked off its first season in the early weeks of 2011. Had I watched it then it would have easily made my top 5 list for last year. Season 2 just started on Showtime and airs Sundays at 9PM.

Shameless is about the rude, manipulative, conniving and honest members of the Gallagher family. The father, Frank, is a drunk who constantly leeches on those around him. Eldest brother Lip is a genius and uses his powers to take SAT exams for cash. Ian is in ROTC and we quickly learn he is gay. Little brother Carl is a pyro maniac, little sister Debbie is too smart for her own good and baby brother Liam clearly is not related. And the eldest, Fiona, holds them all together.

William H. Macy in the role of Frank is like a modern day Jack Sparrow. He is completely charming but the show does not shy away from the reoccurring destruction he causes his family. Emmy Rossum is brilliant as Fiona. Lip, played by Jeremy Allen White, is definitely the most underrated cast member, his character gets some really great moments.

I am really loving this show. It is the first drama in a while that I've ate up the whole season in just a few nights. While some of the things the Gallaghers get up to are a little farfetched, this is a really written show with some really fun and nuanced characters. You can catch up now with the 'Showtime Anytime' app I posted about a few days ago. Let me know what you think of Shameless and leave any suggestions you might have in the comments.
