When the next generation of gaming is coming and why I'm not looking forward to it

his coming holiday season the Xbox 360 will be turning 7 and the PS3 and Wii will be 6 years old. The previous generation lasted only 4 years for Microsoft, 5 years for Nintendo and 6 for Sony. This console cycle, while still delivering some really great games, is getting long in the tooth.

So the question on everyone's mind is, when will the new console hardware be revealed and when will it launch?

Nintendo has already revealed their next console to break fanboy's hearts even further, the Wii U. But for the hardware anyone wants to play games on, we look to Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft took a full year lead last go around and as bad as Microsoft would like to do that again, Sony will probably make it difficult.

Big PlayStation Home update coming today

PlayStation Home has been a bit of a joke since its launch. Apparently some people are actually in there because Sony is dumping a ton of resources into it, changing it in big ways. To start they are adding persistent quests to go on through out the world of Home. They are replacing the central plaza with a new starting area that will act like a hub to other parts of Home.

There will be a few more sections added as well, including a sports area. Free mini-games will be added to the hub regularly. They have even added a free multiplayer FPS that runs inside Home called Bootleggers 29. While all these features are sort of neat, I still don't see any value. It all still seems like a glorified menu system with a ton of ads shoved down your throat. If you're into Home check out the link below for a full list and description of updates and watch two videos about the overhaul after the break.

Watch: Amazing PS3 commercial: "Michael"

Check this out. Sony has made a commercial featuring real life, or semi-real PlayStation characters. Don't be spoiled and go watch it now. Watched it? Good. The premise is a lot of the Sony icons in a bar, each sharing their 'war stories' about the gamer that controlled them, Michael. Hey, thats my name. The end result is really cool so go give it a watch.

They are bundling the TV with rechargeable and lightweight 3D glasses, 6ft. HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3 all for $499. PSA: PlayStation Store back online, inFamous 2 demo available

Just a quick heads up that the PlayStation Store is now back online. It's been quite an odyssey with PSN the past month or so. Things are looking to be getting back in order now. Sony has announced that the PS Store is now back online and as a timely bonus the demo for inFamous 2 is also available. Just an anecdotal thing, but It's taking a while to download the demo (118 Minutes Left) so users are likely flocking back to grab some content they missed.

The content for the Welcome Back offer is not online yet but should be available "soon." The cases recently released on XBL for L.A. Noire are available as well as the Rockstar pass but likely not everything will be up to date. The next update is scheduled for June 3rd. You can take a look at what as been added over on the PlayStation Blog.
