Game Review: Halo 4

I'm a bit of a Halo fan. I have played an immeasurable amount of Halo: Combat Evolved, probably an embarrassing amount. The subsequent games' campaigns haven't enticed me the same but I'm happy to say Halo 4 is cruising very close to that original formula.

Giving a game a 10 is not something I took lightly. Halo 4 is not a perfect game but no game really is. It is a game that is greater than the sum of its parts however. Any minor gripe I had with it was outweighed by something that much better. Also taken into account was the great package this game ships with — Spartan Ops, Forge and an extensive multiplayer. Even though Halo 4 is the first 10/10 I've given this year, it's the first 10/10 I've ever given. That doesn't mean it is a lock for my favorite game of the year however, the race is still on.

Nokia Announces the Lumia 920

Nokia has received a lot of deserving praise over the design of their Lumia 900. What was hodling that phone back was the out dated Windows Phone software, but now with Windows Phone 8 coming the newly announced Lumia 920 looks very attractive.

The Lumia 920 features a large emphasis on the camera and the optics. Promising great low-light performance, and excellent image stabilization, it could be one of the best smart phone cameras on the market when it is released.

The 920 also boasts a PureMotion HD+ display and wireless charging features. Wireless charging has been done before but it always amazes me. Built in NFC will allow you to also connect wirelessly to supported headphones and speakers. You can see all the specs here. via: The Verge

Microsoft Reveals New Logo

For the first time in 25 years Microsoft has updated their logo. The change isn't as revolutionary as you might imagine though. The black italicized font has been replaced with the 'Segoe' font in a dark grey which is accompanied by a symbol similar to the Windows logo.

The blue, green and red colors in the logo represent Windows, Xbox and Office, respectively. I guess the yellow square could one day represent Windows phone or simply represents future ideas.

Microsoft Rebrands Hotmail to Outlook

Microsoft has decided to kill off the Hotmail name and go with something with less negative connotations with Outlook. The Outlook name has been around for many years as a desktop client but now the name comes to the new redesign of mail from Microsoft.

The design has been called very "Metro." While the design is definitely inspired by Microsoft forthcoming Windows 8, there are no 'live tiles' but instead has a very minimal and elegant look, placing even more focus on the messages than Google. I'm no power user so I won't even try to discern the new strengths and weaknesses but you can try it for yourself now at Outlook.com.

Windows Phone 8 shows a promising future

Just a few days after their revealing of Surface, Microsoft is having another event to show off some new features coming in Windows Phone 8.

The Windows Phone summit was mostly focused toward developers but there were some nice new features revealed for the next generation of Windows Phones.

The most exciting of which is the new home screen. The "live tiles" are still in full effect but now they can be scaled however the user likes.

Microsoft reveals Surface tablet

Microsoft introduced their entry into the tablet market today. A market ostensibly owned by Apple.

The Surface tablet is definitely a tablet but also has one foot in the laptop and netbook space. With the included kickstand and the keyboard covers, that makes the Surface one to consider when shopping for either of those products.

The tablet is 10.6" and comes in two flavors. An Intel version which is 13.5mm thick and weighs 1.9lbs. And an ARM version that is 9.3mm thick and weighs 1.5lbs.
