Thoughts: FOX's Alcatraz

I really should have known what to expect when I was getting into a J.J. Abrams TV show. I'm only familiar with Lost but I still stand by that Lost was god awful. I watched it beginning to end and the show retroactively spoiled all the enjoyment I had with previous seasons by never delivering on mysteries. I don't want things handed to me on a silver platter mind you, I just want the time I invested talking about the cabin and other unsolved mysteries to have mattered.

If you couldn't tell I was very skeptical going into Alcatraz. But hey, it has Hurley from Lost who was my favorite part of that show and Sam freakin' Neill. So I watched the 2 hour long premiere and my mind was mush by the end. Not in the good way.

First look at J.J. Abrams' Alcatraz

I think I'm going to be tricked again. It's no secret I thought Lost turned out to be a horrible show. The reason for that is no matter how good the first two seasons were they were resting on a nonexistent foundation. In the end the writers had no idea what they were doing. J.J. Abrams dropped an island, smoke monster and a hatch into the writers laps and took off.

Now J.J.'s new show, Alcatraz, is set to premier on Fox midseason 2012 and it reminds me all too much of flight 815. There's even a young male lead named 'Jack' oh, and Hurley (Jorge Garcia) is in there too. This series seems to rest on the mystery of how and why the prisoners vanished from Alcatraz. Sam Neill is investigating this mystery and seems to know quite a bit as to how it may have happened. Against my better judgement I will probably tune in to see exactly how this will start to shape up but I am keeping my guard up. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

Check out an intense Sam Niell and that dude Hugo in the trailer below.
