Mattel producing Hoverboard ahead of 2015 schedule

Back to the Future Part II had some pretty wild ideas for what the future would be like in 2015. That is only 3 short years away and the world doesn't look quite like Robert Zemeckis' vision for the future. No one is wearing two ties at the same time but some people are wearing clothes made out of meat so that's sort of close.

One of the more iconic future devices was the Hoverboard by Mattel. Like those Nike Air MAGs, Mattel is cashing in on the 80's classic by introducing a prop replica of that stylish, hot pink hoverboard. The official word from Mattel calls this a "high-cost item." And if minimum pre-orders aren't met the replicas will not be made. I can't imagine spending over $100 for such a thing — it doesn't even hover for Christ sakes — I can't imagine where all the cost is going.

Personally I'm still waiting on the Black & Decker HYDRATOR. You know, where you put in that little freeze-dried pizza and comes out all fresh and hot in about 3 seconds. That is the equivalent to a flying car for me.
