David Jaffe leaving Eat Sleep Play, opening new studio in San Diego
David Jaffe, one of the industry's more forward facing characters, is leaving his company Eat Sleep Play. The small studio only has 3 games under their belt and one was a PSP to PS2 port. Jaffe's last game with the company, Twisted Metal, is out on Valentines Day this year.
After the announcement of Jaffe's departure rumors began that he would be working on "casual" titles. The developer took to Twitter to squash those rumors saying, "I have zero plans to make games like FARMVILLE and ANGRY BIRDS. I never said what I was doing post TM (and I'm still on TM along with ESP."
In a number of tweets he also said he will be opening up a new shop in San Diego.
"...I will be opening a game studio here in San Diego because I really miss internal game development. Happy to share more details later..."
Currently he directs the Twisted Metal team, located in Utah, remotely. Purely as an outsider looking in, it seems like Eat Sleep Play and Jaffe never really got to do what they set out on and that could have forced Jaffe's exit. Currently Jaffe has high hopes for his new studio with plans for big next gen projects and browser based games.
