'Back to the Future' auto-lacing shoes becoming a reality [UPDATED]
According to some very convincing evidence from TechCrunch it is almost certain that Nike will be debuting shoes inspired by Back to the Future Part II sometime this year. In Part II when Marty goes to the far flung future of October 21, 2015 he has to look the part. The self-sizing jacket is very iconic but the self-lacing Nike's were crucial to the ensemble.
Producer of the series, Frank Marshall, posted on twitter of a big BTTF related announcement. Later, he posted this video uploaded to YouTube with a dummy account of "DocEmmettBrown88." The video description labels the shoes as "Nike MAG shoes."
The shoes look as funky as they ever have but judging by the 5 minutes of the MTV music awards I saw, that seems to be in right now. That being said if they didn't come with the over sized tube/carrying case it would be a crime. It's pretty cool that these will be real and those more stylish than myself will eat them up but I'm holding out for a normal looking shoe with this self-lacing technology. Because Velcro apparently is not acceptable on adults. This post will be updated when there is an official announcement and photos.

It's official. Nike has officially announced the Nike Air MAG. The shoe is an exact replica of Marty's shoe from the 1989 film. It will be a limited run of only 1500 and available only on eBay. There was some other news with this announcement that is sure to upset just about everyone. These Air MAGs do not have power laces.
That's right, arguably the only reason to be interested in these ugly things is not included. Nike really screwed up in announcing these. The talk of the town about these shoes were that they'd have the auto-lacing feature seen in the film but I guess we'll still have to wait until 2015 to get a real pair of Marty's kicks. The proceeds are all going to Michael J. Fox Foundation. At least it's for a good cause, but really, couldn't get more disappointing.
